{"id":10562,"date":"2023-05-15T12:21:36","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T12:21:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gfk-cfs.de\/?p=10562"},"modified":"2023-10-16T09:39:53","modified_gmt":"2023-10-16T09:39:53","slug":"carbon-pricing-why-is-japan-lagging-behind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gfk-cfs.de\/en\/events\/event-archive\/2023\/carbon-pricing-why-is-japan-lagging-behind\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbon Pricing &#8211; Why is Japan lagging behind?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The introduction of greenhouse gas emission rights and their allocation through trading schemes (\u201ccarbon markets\u201d) is considered an essential policy tool for the achievement of the ambitious net-zero emission goals, to which countries \u2013 including Japan \u2013 have committed under the Paris Agreement. Japan has so far not established carbon markets on a national scale. Also, its carbon tax introduced in 2012 has remained ineffectively low. The presentation will discuss why carbon pricing has so far not been used within Japan\u2019s climate policy framework.
