Senior Fellows

Lucas Papademos has been a Senior Fellow at the CFS since 2010. As Senior Fellow he is involved in policy oriented research issues, mainly in the areas of monetary policy and financial stability.

Professor Papademos was the Prime Minister of Greece from November 2011 to May 2012, leading a government of national unity in the wake of the Greek debt crisis. Previously he was Vice-President of the European Central Bank from 2002 to 2010. Before joining the ECB, he was Governor of the Bank of Greece from 1994 to 2002.

Papademos completed his doctoral degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under Nobel laureate Franco Modigliani, and started his academic career at Columbia University (USA). Papademos has published, in addition to numerous policy papers, articles in a wide range of academic journals, such as Economic Theory, European Economic Review and Brookings Papers on Economic Activity. He has also edited and co-edited several books, e.g. Enhancing Monetary Analysis with Jürgen Stark in 2010. Papademos is a member of the Academy of Athens and Professor at the University of Athens. In the spring semester of 2011, he visited the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and tought courses on international economics and the financial crisis.

Papademos has been an active participant in many CFS events, such as the ECB and Its Watchers conferences and the International Research Forum on Monetary Policy. CFS is very grateful for the opportunity to work with Lucas Papademos on policy-inspired research issues and on policy analysis at the highest level.
