Political risk insurance and its growing role in mobilising private finance in an uncertain world
Various indicators point to rising political risk in developed as well as emerging markets. How can investors and lenders protect against financial losses due to political risk? This talk will focus on a niche, but fascinating, risk mitigation tool known as “political risk insurance”, its main users, providers, and key stakeholders. To show the impact of the product on investments in emerging markets, we will use the example of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), an insurance arm of the World Bank Group, the largest multilateral provider of insurance against non-commercial risks.
